Ski Resorts Close to Valencia
If you like winter sports and nature, what better idea than schussing around the ski slopes? Spain has a large mountainous area spread throughout the country where you can enjoy the best snow for skiing. Even though we do not have snow in Valencia, fortunately we have different options nearby to enjoy the mountains in winter. Between 2 and 5 hours from the city, you can enjoy modern facilities with all the services to spend an unforgettable day. Plan a day or a weekend of skiing and escape to any of these slopes suited to all skill levels. We present ski slopes to which you can travel by car from Valencia in few hours.
Javalambre station is located in a privileged environment of great natural beauty. This resort has 15 kilometers of ski area with 14 slopes and offers numerous services and activities. You can get there by car by taking the road towards Puerto de Sagunto and continuing along the Mudéjar motorway until you reach exit 89 in La Puebla de Valverde where you just follow the signs until you reach the resort. If you want to go by bus, Busblanco has scheduled departures from Cuenca, Valencia and other destinations.
The ski resort of Javalambre offers numerous activities for a fun family day of snow. You and your family can enjoy the snowpark sled track, Skity Track and Duby Track for children, adrenaline activities like snowspeeding, Crono Slalom, and skicross, as well as skiing with a ranger who will help you improve your technique and show you the resort’s secret places. The slopes are available from 09:00h to 17:00h. You can rent skis, and snowboarding and snowblading equipment for all ages and sizes. You will also find several restaurants to have a meal or a hot chocolate and convenient parking for your vehicle at the foot of the slopes.
Like the Javalambre station, the Valdelinares station is 140 km from the city of Valencia and belongs to the group of stations of the Sistema Ibérico Turolense. This station is located in the province of Teruel situated at an altitude of 2000 meters. It has 14 tracks spread over a skiable territory of 14 km and 169 artificial snow cannons. If you are driving from Valencia, you must take the road towards Puerto de Sagunto and continue along the Mudejar motorway until exit 76 towards Mora de Rubielos. Once you have passed Mora de Rubielos and Virgen de la Vega, you just follow the signs until you reach the station. If you want to go by bus, you can also take the Busblanco.
If this is your first time skiing or you want to improve your technique, make the most of the getaway to take skiing and snowboarding lessons in a complete 5-hour course. The Valdelinares Ski Resort offers numerous activities to enjoy winter sports very similar to those offered by the Javalambre resort. Its open hours are from 9:00 to 17:00h and a ski pass and ski equipment can both be acquired right on the ski slopes or through the Internet, where discounts are available. You will also find restaurants that offer varied menus including special dishes for celiac people.
To get to the two resorts in the province of Teruel, you will travel about two hours. You can visit them for a day or weekend, as you can return to Valencia and be home for dinner. We suggest staying in a hotel in the village of Teruel in the area of Sierra Gúdar-Javalambre. You get rental points for equipment provided on the slopes or in the different villages. Formigal Ski Resort is located 471 km from Valencia, specifically in the province of Huesca. People from all over Spain and France come to its facilities to practice the winter sports offered on the slopes. This resort is a little further away than Teruel’s resorts (approximately 5 hours), but it has a larger area, the one with the most tracks in Spain, with 137 kilometers of slopes, 2 cross-country ski circuits, 1 sled track, 1 racket circuit and 7 new off track kilometers. Formigal is the largest ski resort in Spain.
If you are driving from Valencia, take the road towards Puerto de Sagunto, and continue along the Mudejar motorway passing through Teruel until you reach Zaragoza. Once you have passed Zaragoza, follow the A23 road until you reach Huesca. When you pass Huesca, you must take road N-260 towards Biescas, Cartirana and Larrés until you reach the Formigal. This ski resort is home to the Spanish Ski School with more than 200 qualified professionals and 50 years of experience within different specialties (alpine skiing, snowboarding, freestyle, freeride and guided tours), languages (Spanish, English and French) and types of classes (private, week or weekend courses and seasonal courses) adapted to all prices, needs and ages.

Despite being the oldest Spanish ski resort, Candanchú is different from Formigal as it is neither as modern or extensive. It has become more of a family resort and one of the best areas in the world for beginning skiers. It is located in the area Tobazo Bajo – Pista Grande, where you will find 8 green and 2 blue slopes next to a large cafeteria at the base of the resort. It is organized in such a way that parents or relatives can see the children and adults skiing, without any problem. It is about 5 hours from the city of Valencia, and represents an excellent family escape plan.
Baqueira Beret, Lérida
This station is a bit further for Valencians (approximately 6 hours), but it is the perfect place to combine quality of track with quality of services and restaurants. Inaugurated on December 6, 1964, the ski resort has the largest skiable territory in Spain (1922 hectares). It is located in the Arán Valley, in the province of Lérida, and since 2003, part of the slopes run through the neighboring valley, Alt Aneu, on the other side of Puerto de la Bonaigua.
This is the only Spanish station located on the northern slope of the Pyrenees, making for abundant snowfall and snow quality. Every winter this track is visited by celebrities who choose to spend their winter holidays on slopes and amid alpine landscapes that are among the most spectacular in Europe. In this area you will find several excellent hotels and more than 200 restaurants, making it is a great destination for either a winter vacation or weekend getaway. Of note, different shops are available with top brands of clothing as well as exclusive commercial galleries at the foot of the tracks. It is definitely great news to have such a place just a few hours away from the city of Valencia.
