Things to do with kids during Christmas 2018 in Valencia
Christmas holidays are a very special time to share with family. For the little ones, this time of year is definitely magical and as they have school holidays, they can enjoy all the activities of the season to the fullest. In Valencia, Christmas is celebrated in a very joyful way and, fortunately, there are a lot of activities for children to have a great time and live unforgettable experiences exclusive to this season. Take a look at the list we have prepared with events available in this beautiful city for the whole family.
1. Christmas in Bioparc
You can enjoy the magic of Christmas with what Bioparc Valencia has prepared for you. From December 22nd to January 5th, children and families can take part in activities and workshops for the general public. For the third consecutive year, they have the spectacular village of Las Jaimas. Bioparc’s outdoor square becomes a dream environment, with a genuine Berber-style village. Children will hand in their letters to the emissary of the Three Wise Men and participate in free games. The main purpose is for the celebration of Christmas to reach everyone in Valencia since all activities and access to the Village of Las Jaimas are completely free. In addition, Bioparc’s courses for animal experts are back with the new edition of Expedition Africa, a holiday school for children from 5 to 12 years old. There will be games, handcrafts and more during this holiday school where children will learn to conserve nature while having fun.
This Christmas, Aesclick, the Spanish Association of Playmobil Collectors, organizes in Torrent the largest free Playmobil event to date in the Valencian Community. There will be a total of 1,700 m2 of exhibition space and a Playmobil collectors’ market, where you will be able to see 14 large dioramas with diverse themes, including some of the traditional festivities of Torrent and Valencia. This totally free exhibition takes place from Thursday, December 13th, 2018 to January 13th, 2019 at the old Torrent market. Outside you will find a tent with various activities for the family, a further incentive to visit allowing you to spend an entire day enjoying an unprecedented spectacle. Fans will enjoy a Playmobil collector’s market with customs pieces, out of print items, accessories and boxes.
3. Christmas at the City of Arts And Sciences in Valencia
The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia celebrates Christmas with a large number of activities and ideas for the whole family. From December 14th to January 6th, the cultural complex becomes the epicenter of Christmas celebrations. Enhance your Christmas spirit by enjoying incredible Christmas workshops (balloon twisting and handicrafts), musical performances, a puppet theatre and delicious gastronomy that you will find in numerous food trucks. You will have a chance to do your Christmas shopping in a beautiful handicraft market where you will find the most original products and many more surprises. Also, there will be a free children’s area with a playroom with board and dexterity games, puzzles, and musical structures. There are paid attractions such as the circuit for children over 7 years where they will enjoy adventure and action in a circuit with 15 obstacles, archery, laser games, and more.
4. Ice Rinks
Some of the most popular ice rinks in Valencia are the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the Nuevo Centro Shopping Center. The former is an ice rink for Valencians of all ages to enjoy skating in the city center. This rink will be available from November 30, 2018 until January 6, 2019 from 11:00 to 23:00h. The Nuevo Centro rink, on the other hand, is located in this shopping center thanks to the Fun On Ice initiative. The rink will be available from October 26th and remain until January 6th. Ice skating is undoubtedly one of the favorite activities of the Christmas season, so do not miss the opportunity for your children to have a great experience in any of the available rinks in the city.
5. Christmas Markets
At Christmas time, Valencia has numerous markets in different parts of the city that offer seasonal products and gifts. In these markets you will find something for all tastes and ages as well as a variety of decorative items to adorn your home with a genuine Christmas spirit. The good news is that in some markets, you can also enjoy a Christmas atmosphere typical of the most beautiful time of the year accompanied by animation and activities so that the children never get bored. Among the child-friendly markets are:
- Nadal Market in Manises (November 30th, December 1st and 2nd, 2018): This market is located in Rafael Atard Squre in Manises where you will find Christmas gifts, decorations, food, cribs, children’s workshops, games, special areas, photocall, a collection of letters and playroom for children.
- Christmas Market in La Pobla de Farnals (December 1st and 2nd, 2018): The Christmas market this year will be located in the square of the Town Hall of La Pobla de Farnals and will include a stall with handicrafts and Christmas products, craft workshops, games and spaces for children, live music and more.
- Christmas Market in Riba-roja de Túria (December 22nd-24th, 2018): This market takes place in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and Mercat Municipal. Here you will find music, clowns, workshops, children’s activities, Christmas lights and sounds, a Santa Claus’ visit and much more.
- Christmas Exhibition at Mercado de Colón (from December 13th, 2018 to January 5th, 2019): This Christmas market features handicrafts and Christmas decorations and is specifically geared for children since Santa and the Three Kings are present along with puppets, animation, games and many more Christmas surprises.
- Benimarket (December 16th): in this market you will find all kinds of stalls with fashion, books, accessories, illustrations, vinyl, etc., and different cultural activities such as workshops, concerts, and performances for all audiences, including children. Benimarket
6. Cava Carrusel
On Saturday, December 1st, you can enjoy the best wine cellar of the Valencian Community in Cava Carrusel. This is a free event, organized by Rootz, which takes place in the Nolich space, located in Ruzafa, the trendy neighborhood of the city. This is the ideal plan to enjoy an afternoon in Valencia at an event aimed for all ages. Your family will enjoy tastings, tapas, activities, chill music and, above all, a lot of Valencian cava! Children will not be bored as there will be circus make-up artists, a photobooth where they can take all the photos they want in their favorite circus costumes, performances, refreshments and lots of snacks. Enjoy a magical afternoon for adults and children with free admission!
7. Wonderland Circus
The Wonderland Circus returns to Valencia from November 30th, 2018 to January 13th, 2019. Including this year, they have been already enjoyed a total of 13 consecutive years in Valencia; and every year they offer a different spectacle. On this occasion, the circus brings a new show with international attractions: jugglers, the magic of great illusions and special effects, the only acrobatic cyclist in Europe who performs a daredevil jump on a unicycle, a 6-meters-high Chinese mast, the clowns “Caluga”, Andalusian flamenco, antipodist (juggling with feet), and more. As a special performance for children, they will also offer the show, “The Little Mermaid”, a novel event where kids can see the authentic Little Mermaid in a swimming pool. During this circus, your family will enjoy two hours of fun directed and presented by the master of ceremonies of all circuses, the TV and theater actor, Javier Gonzales Turiel. Don’t miss it!
8. Valencia Christmas Funfair 2018
This year, Valencia Christmas Fair returns for the enjoyment of children and adults during the long-awaited festivities. The fair takes place from Saturday, December 1st, 2018 to Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019. During the months of December and January, all visitors will enjoy the varied attractions; a unique way to experience incredible moments of adrenaline and fun with family and friends. Children and adults will be able to get into bumper cars, enjoy the grasshoppers, eat cotton candy or simply disconnect from routine life. The meeting place is between Ingeniero Manuel Soto Street and Avenida de Francia, next to the old Grao Station.
