New Year, new skills! Workshops for kids in Valencia: from playing with mud to building robots
Most children are involved in at least one extra-curricular activity during school term time, whether it’s ballet, art classes, football or drama lessons. There is plenty on offer in Valencia for children of all ages. What better way to start the New Year than to encourage curiosity and love for learning. Simply choose a fun activity to do with their peers after school or as a family on the weekend. With so much choice in the city, we have listed a few places and ideas for you to check out. Art & Crafts
Le Petit Atelier d’Arts

If you are looking for a place to get your children to enjoy free creative expression, Le Petit Atelier d’Arts offers a wide range of activities you can do at your own pace. From drawing and painting to sculpture and comics, children – as well as adults – can try their hand at plenty of different techniques. Tutors are at hand to help and give guidance. One 1.5h session per week is €48 per month, 2 hours is €59 per month. The more sessions you book, the more economical it gets. Sessions for all ages are Mondays and Fridays between 17:30h until 20:30h and Saturdays from 10:15h to 14:00h. Your session starts when you arrive, so you can come as you please.

The Valencian Museum of Enlightment and Modernity’s exhibits cover such items as the printing-press, life in mediaeval monasteries, the cosmic revolution and the sciences of the Contemporary Age. The place hosts a variety of workshops, film projections, and more, and most are linked to current exhibitions. There are many different activities to take part in in January, including a fun painting workshop with the artist Cari Roig, who made the stained glass window in the museum lobby, on Sunday 21st and 28th of January at 11:30h. MUVIM workshops are usually free, but need to be booked in advance.

This lovely café/bar and bookshop in Ruzafa has regular workshops for children, which are worth keeping an eye out for. Coming up soon is Creating with Mud on Saturday 20th of January at 17:30h (€4, book in advance by phoning Juni on 682602109). You will go home with a very special sculpture!
Robotics and Technology

Got a little engineer in your household? A computer programmer maybe? Droide is a center specialised in STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths). Their technological extra-curricular programme offers children a variety of workshops, working with different robots, programming video games or printing in 3D. Costs start from €20 per month for one hour per week. A fabulous film making course for 7 to 12 year-olds starts on the 27th of January, making journalistic video-reports, fiction short films and YouTube content (costs €89). Music and Dance

For children who love to dance, the Hip-Hop Street Dance course at Playground Art Centre is a great way to improve dance skills and work towards a group choreography. In the classes kids will learn to move like a real dancer, while improving their level of English too if this is their second language. Other classes to check out at Playground are Coro Pop, a weekly pop music choir which will teach children to sing in harmony with others, breathing and singing techniques and sing along to the songs of their favourite artists perfectly! Classes are from age 6, start in January and are €40 per month for one hour a week.
Valencia Club Cocina

With cooking courses for parents and children at Valencia Club Cocina you can have fun together and, in a relaxed and playful atmosphere, gain life-long cooking skills and healthy eating habits. You can sign up for short courses to learn how to make dishes like sushi or desserts – or do a full course of eight lessons to master it all. Times and prices can be found on their website.
Building a bit of calm and balance into our kids, doesn’t that sound wonderful..? How about yoga? There are plenty of yoga classes in and around Valencia, many of which now offer classes for children.
